Haddington Athletic Football club is recruiting new volunteers.
You don’t need prior experience as full training will be given but you will need:
- Time and flexibility – running a part time, professional football club entirely through volunteers means everybody mucks in, on matchdays and across the season from August to May, with work also required during the summer break.
- A love of teamwork – we are all fans, so we are happy to debate football, but we also commit to being positive, supporting each other, the football coaching team and our players.
- An interest in football – you won’t pick the team, but you will care whether the team wins or loses. There’s a lot that goes into running a football club and that includes the community side of the club which has its own volunteers but with whom we work closely.
In particular we are looking for individuals who can help us with these following roles:
Our Registration and Match Secretary
You will love admin; you will be comfortable with rules and regulations; you will be happy working at speed and with precision. This person is at the heart of our squad registration; you will be involved in transfers; you will upload our team and score each week; you will keep all of our necessary records. It involves several hours of work each week, with busy periods often coming over the close season when we sign existing and new players.
Operations volunteers
You will join our team and roll your sleeves up to ensure everything gets done to host matches; clear up afterwards and generally keep the show on the road. This might be a series of tasks and duties over a typical week.
Family activities volunteer
As East Lothian’s biggest community football club we know how important it is to share the joy of live sport with the widest range of people including children and young adults. On matchdays and on some other occasions we want to provide activities before and after football matches that are fun and entertaining. You will head up these efforts, perhaps working with other volunteers to deliver these plans. You will be used to children and willing to go through the usual checks.
Media volunteer
Love generating content and sharing material on social media? We have so many stories to share and a huge audience hungry for news and engagement. You might get to interview players or write notes on our next opponents. You might write for our website or ensure Facebook and Instagram are kept busy with our updates. Working to our communications lead, you will build a portfolio of achievements and have a lot of fun. Flexible hours, probably little and often bits of time.
In practical terms, for all of these roles, you will need to live within easy travelling time of our base in Haddington, East Lothian. We welcome expressions of interest from anybody, and we understand the benefits that diversity amongst our volunteer group can bring us.
We will reimburse you for any cash you spend on our behalf, but we don’t play travel expenses and the roles are entirely voluntary.
But you will feel part of a busy, fun team; you will develop new skills; you will get to look behind the curtain to see how a semi professional football club is run. You get free entry to home matches and invites to our events and celebrations. And when the team wins, it will in part, be because of you.
