One hundred and twenty six potential opponents, four dozen of whom we’ve never met, joined us in this week’s draw. Spread across a geographical area covering the whole of the southern half of the country – a dozen or so different counties. The outcome for us then – a home draw against one of our neighbours and oldest rivals in the shape of Dunbar United!
Ironically we’re up against the Seasiders on league business at New Countess Park just a week before we welcome them to Millfield for the cup tie on Saturday 13 September.
Also notable given the vast range of draws we could’ve had is the fact this is the third time in five seasons we’ve drawn near neighbours in the competition. Four years ago we knocked Dunbar out at the same stage with a 2-1 Millfield victory, then in 2022 also in the second round we hosted Tranent – late Hi Hi’s goals were a feature in both games, with Ali Simpson’s late equaliser in the later game taking the Tranent tie to extra time after which our visitors went through with a 4-2 win.
It’s nice to have a run of big games to look forward to – after St Andrews this Saturday, where we drew 2-2, we’ve our Scottish Cup tie at Auchinleck Talbot next weekend then a midweek league game at home to Penicuik Athletic before the Dunbar double header; exciting times!
