It was a return to winning ways for Haddington Athletic today (Saturday, 11 November) against Sauchie Juniors in a Premier Division fixture at Millfield.
Despite goalkeeper Miko Komocki having a couple of early saves to make while Sauchie hit the post, it was the Hi Hi’s who took the lead on 13 minutes thanks to a clinical strike from Ryan Cameron from a right of centre position in the box, after good build-up play.
Our front men were looking lively and we doubled our advantage on 22 minutes, when Lewis Walker prodded the ball into the net from close range.
Tom Davies made it 3-0 on 43 minutes with a great finish from around 20 yards out, after being set up beautifully by midfielder Liam Kelly. When the same player was fouled in the box a couple of minutes later, Tom Davies stepped up to successfully take take the resultant penalty.
As the second half began, there were hopes we could extend our advantage. But it was not until the 69th minute that we made it 5-0. Substitute Ryan Cameron found the back of the net shortly after coming on, after being teed up by Liam Kelly on the left. There was to be no further scoring, with the Hi Hi’s defence coping well with the Sauchie forwards throughout the match.
On Tuesday evening, we welcome Musselburgh Athletic to Millfield for a Premier Division derby fixture. Unfortunately, positive results against Burgh have been few and far between since our promotion to the top flight.
Musselburgh were, of course, last season’s Premier Division champions, picking up 70 points along the way and only losing four matches out of 30. They defeated us 2-0 at Olivebank in August 2024, before securing a 3-1 win when the two sides met again at Millfield in February 2025. Our March 2022 League Cup win is our only victory over our neighbours in the last 23 years. Burgh continue to look a strong side, but hopefully Scott Bonar’s men can put in another positive performance and pick up some points on this occasion.
