The Hi Hi’s welcomed last season’s league champions Musselburgh Athletic to Millfield for a local derby on Tuesday evening.
Our hopes of a first Premier Division win over our neighbours had an early setback when a Jordan Smith shot took a wicked deflection into the net after six minutes, wrongfooting his brother Jamie in the Haddington goal in the process.
The visitors came close on a couple of other occasions but there was very limited goalmouth action overall in the first half, with Burgh generally felt to be the better team and deserving of their lead.
The Hi Hi’s took control of the game in the second period, enjoying the majority of the possession, but were unable to create many clearcut chances. Against the run of play after 75 minutes, Rhys Caves doubled the visitors’ lead with an exceptional strike from 25 yards or more.
Unfortunately, we were unable to find a way back into the game in the closing stages, with Burgh leaving the county town with all three points. On the whole, the visitors had defended well and were able to get the ball forward fast, whilst looking physically strong.
On Saturday, we travel to Dunipace for our 14th Premier Division fixture of the season.
