Last Saturday fellow Conference champions, Oakley United, visited Millfield for an important Premier League match with both sides eyeing up the opportunity to collect three points. Haddington made the better start and could well have been ahead before Guy McGarry opened the scoring with a well placed shot in the 24th minute. AnĀ  Auriemma goal was controversially chalked off before Oakley shocked the home support by equalising in the final minute of the first half. There was little between the sides after the break but the match was decided in the space of a couple of minutes in the closing twenty minutes. Guy McGarry was brought down in the box and substitute Shaun Hill, not long on the park, put the home side ahead. However within a minute an even softer penalty was awarded at the other end when Ali Simpson was adjudged to have fouled an opponent. Oakley’s penalty wasn’t particularly well hit but goalkeeper Cornet guessed correctly and blocked the shot, much to the relief of everyone of a Hi Hi’s persuasion. The Fifers piled on the pressure in the closing stages but the home defence stood firm against numerous corners and free kicks and three valuable points stayed at Millfield.
