Squad update # 3

Gary Nicholson put pen to paper on a deal which will see him a Hi Hi’s player until the end of the season after yesterday’s game. Gary, 24, belongs to Penicuik and showed up well in a number of trialist outings since making his debut as a second half substitute against Bonnyrigg Rose on 17 November. He then started the 7-0 win against Tynecastle seven days later, when he also laid on a few of the other six goals in a 7-0 home win, and was unlucky not to get his name on the scoresheet again yesterday.

After coming through the age groups with a variety of teams, latterly Bonnyrigg Rose ‘A’ Under 21s, Gary played for Preston Athletic, Selkirk and Whitehill Welfare in the Lowland League before joining Musselburgh Athletic in the close season. Finding his starting opportunities restricted at Olive Bank, he left by mutual consent in early November – we hope he enjoys a productive spell with us, ideally extending beyond his present deal. Gary’s maternal grandfather is John Thorburn, who played right back for Penicuik Athletic in the 1970 Scottish Junior Cup Final and has in more recent times scouted for Manchester United.

Welcome to Millfield Gary, hope it’s an enjoyable stay.
