Despite being without several key players, it was generally thought that the Haddington youngsters would have too much for West Lothian side West Calder United in the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup at Millfield last Saturday. However West Calders experienced had the edge on the home side and prevailed in extra time. The Hi Hi’s never really settled into the game and were on occasions outmuscled by their more experienced opponents. Chances were few and far between in the ninety minutes and it looked as though it would take penalties to separate the sides. But West Calder struck twice in extra time and Niall Kemp’s headed goal in the 112th minute proved too little too late for the home side. This was an uncharacteristic performance from Haddington and will no doubt give manager Scott Bonar some food for thought.
