The Hi Hi’s suffered only their second defeat in six months when they lost to Linlithgow Rose in a Premier Division match at Millfied last Saturday. The West Lothian side knew that a win would give them the league title and an excellent crowd of 430 turned up to see a good game of football. Haddington will be annoyed as they had good chances to score prior to both Linlithgow goals. Early in the game Joe Tait was left with only the Rose goalkeeper to beat but he saw his shot blocked. Minutes later the visitors took the lead when Forsyth was beaten on the right and the resultant cut back was dispatched past Dale Cornet. Cornet pulled off a couple of excellent saves to keep his side in the game. Guy McGarry had an opening at the start of the second half but screwed his shot wide. Again the Rose profited from this miss when defensive slackness gifted Linlithgow a second. The Hi Hi’s pulled one back in the 70th minute when Auriemma provided a neat finish to an excellent cross from substitute Riley Haston. This set up an interesting finish but the Hi Hi’s just came up short in their efforts to find the equaliser. The final whistle signalled the start of the celebrations from the Linlithgow players and their supporters. Haddington sportingly provided a guard of honour as the champions left the field.
