For the majority of last week’s Premier Division match at Glenrothes, the Hi Hi’s were in control, having scored twice in an impressive first half performance. It was still the same score with minutes to go but the Fifers scored twice in the closing minutes to claim a point that they hardly deserved.
Team boss Scott Bonar was without several players through injury and suspension, and a late absentee was club captain Nick Aitchison who moved to Tranent after signing a pre contract with the Foresters Park club. Lucas McGarry came into the side to partner Craig Reid in central defence. With Corey Robertson suspended, Brandyn Neil came in at right back following his loan spell at Ormiston Primrose. The opening minutes were fairly even but Haddington moved ahead when the home goalkeeper could only only parry a shot from Tom Davies and Gary Windram was first to react and scored from eight yards. Davies was a threat on the left and he doubled the Hi Hi’s lead midway through the half when he cut in from the left wing and scored with a well placed shot. The Fifers were more in the match kicking uphill in the second half, but it was the visitors who looked the more likely to extend their lead and home goalkeeper Wotherspoon took the eye with a couple of fine saves. Some dubious offside calls also prevented a third goal. Tom Davies came close with a 20 yard effort as the clock ticked down and Haddington were to regret his narrow miss. An avoidable penalty kick was conceded in the 87th minute and the conversion of this award, gave Glenrothes hope when they looked a beaten side. Minutes later they scrambled in an equaliser following a corner kick from the left, leaving Haddington stunned and regretting not getting the all important third goal.
