The Hi Hi’s travelled to Stirlingshire last Saturday to meet newly promoted Dunipace at Westfield Park, scene of their League Cup Final defeat against Sauchie back in June. It wasn’t to be a better outcome this time round unfortunately. Manager Scott Bonar was without his two main strikers, Grant Rose and Tom Davies, and the lack of firepower was evident. Haddington more than matched their opponents in terms of application and skill but the lack of a cutting edge up front proved to be the difference between the sides. Not that goalkeeper Robbie Stirling had a lot to deal with from the Dunipace front line who were well marshalled by the Haddington defence. There was an element of luck about the opening goal in the first half. A strong header from a corner was going wide until it struck Corey Robertson and was deflected into the net. The decisive second goal late in the game came from the penalty spot after a rather needless challenge from a Haddington defender left the referee with an easy decision. The Hi Hi’s could not be faulted for lack of effort and they played some good football on the artificial surface.
