The South Challenge Cup is one of the biggest non league knock out competitions in Scotland and it can throw up some interesting ties with clubs from east, west and south of Scotland all taking part. Given this, it was rather ironic that the Hi Hi’s were paired with neighbours Dunbar United in the first round with Haddington’s league rivals Leith Athletic facing the winners. Although it took a late Gordon Harris penalty to get past Dunbar, most observers felt that Haddington deserved to get through. They face another stern test at Millfield tomorrow as Leith will be keen to inflict Haddington’s first defeat of the season and gain some bragging rights in the race for the league title. Results last Saturday saw the Hi Hi’s leapfrog Leith into first place, and Manager Scott Bonar and his players will be keen to impose themselves on their capital rivals.
Another good crowd is expected at Millfield to see this eagerly anticipated tussle and Haddington will be desperate to keep their unbeaten run going, knowing that their much talked about Scottish Cup tie at Brechin is coming up next. Team boss Bonar will be making sure that the team is fully focussed on the Leith match.
