The Hi Hi’s were on the verge of creating another Scottish Cup shock when they narrowly led fifth tier Deveronvale with the match well into time added on. The home side were piling on the pressure and when the visitors defence failed to clear a long throw, the ball was scrambled into the net to give the Highland League side a Scottish Cup lifeline. The loss of the late equaliser should not, however, take the shine of what was another fine performance from the Millfield side, who by avoiding defeat set a club record of thirteen unbeaten games at the start of a season. In an impressive first half performance the Hi Hi’s could well have put the tie beyond the reach of the home side. Shaun Hill scored from the spot in the 4th minute after Seamus Russell had been fouled.

Then Guy McGarry almost profited from hesitation in the home defence and Corey Robertson struck the post with a low shot from 25 yards. The home goal was leading a charmed life and Seamus Russell had a header cleared off the line. It was a different Vale side who reappeared after the interval and they came close on several occasions before they equalised from close range. The home side were now in the ascendancy and Haddington were pinned back into their own half. However in the final twenty minutes Gabri Auriemma profited from poor defending and headed Haddington ahead. It looked as thought this goal was going to give the Hi Hi’s a famous victory until that late strike took the tie to a replay.
