Everyone at Haddington Athletic was shocked and saddened by the news that our long serving committee member, Jim Thomson, has unexpectedly passed away. Jim hasn’t enjoyed the best of health in recent years but his passing came as a shock to everyone connected with the club, especially as he was in fine form at Millfield last Saturday.
Jim became secretary of the club not long after he joined in 1975. He subsequently served as club president for a few years. Jim was a popular figure in local football circles and always made a point of speaking to visiting clubs making them welcome at Millfield. Jim would have celebrated his 50th anniversary with the club next season and he was looking forward to celebrating this impressive milestone. Nevertheless Jim will always be remembered as a true Hi Hi’s legend.
We will remember Jim at our next home match against Musselburgh Athletic on Saturday 4th January. We pass on our sincere condolences to Jim’s wife Maureen, and his sons Steven and David and their families.
