The Hi Hi’s followed up their South Challenge Cup first round victory over Dunbar United with an equally impressive performance when they knocked out their Conference A rivals, Leith Athletic, at Millfield last Saturday. Leith had led Conference A until last Saturday when the Hi Hi’s moved three points clear and a closely contested match was eagerly anticipated. This was reflected once again in the attendance at Millfield when a big home support boosted a crowd in excess of 350. Haddington didn’t disappoint and they raced into a three goal lead before the break. Gabri Auriemma opened the scoring, then a double from Guy McGarry put the home side in a commanding position. Leith threatened a comeback briefly when they pulled back a goal in the early stages of the second half, but only some poor finishing prevented the home side from moving further ahead. McGarry, Hill, and Auriemma all had good chances before the latter finished off the scoring with a neat finish. The all in draw for the third round takes place on Thursday with some big names amongst the 64 sides still in the competition.
