Edinburgh South may be a new team in the East of Scotland League but their line up at Millfield last Saturday included a few familiar faces. Former Hi Hi’s Matty Lynch, Jack Wilson and Sean Jamieson were all in the starting line up with Sean Connaghan on the bench. It’s unlikely that Haddington will face a more experienced side this season. Manager Joe Hamill’s line up was on the usual lines with Seamus Russell replacing Ali Simpson. There was little between the sides in the opening exchanges but it was the Hi Hi’s who took the lead when Guy McGarry fortuitously flicked a shot from Ryan Hutchison past the visiting goalkeeper. The home side enjoyed a good spell after this and only a goal line clearance foiled Shaun Hill. Persistent play from Hutchison led to Auriemma netting from close range and only some poor decision making prevented more goals. Edinburgh South got themselves back into the game when a left wing cross eluded the home defence and Cornet was beaten by a well placed header. The visitors came within inches of equalising when Jamieson’s header rebounded from the post with Cornet beaten. The second half was a closely fought affair with both sides having their share of possession. Haddington had the better chances but their finishing left something to be desired.

The Hi Hi’s are back in action under the Millfield floodlights tomorrow evening when they entertain another capital side in Edinburgh United. Once again a close match is anticipated, as will be the case on Saturday when Haddington travel to Fife to meet Kirkcaldy and Dysart.
