The Groundhop weekend in East Lothian brought out the crowds but it is also produced some unexpected results with not one of the four local sides registering a win. The afternoon match took place at Millfield which was looking at its best for this special occasion and the weather also held up. Haddington went into the match against Dundonald Bluebell hoping to extend their 11 match unbeaten run which stretched back to November but the Fifers had other ideas and they were out to avenge a 2-1 defeat to the Hi Hi’s back in September.

The Fifers took the game to the home side from the start and they moved ahead in the 20th minute. The home side missed a glorious chance to equalise when Nick Aitchieson blazed over from close range following a corner kick. This was compounded when hesitancy in the home defence allowed the visitors to double their lead, and it was 2 0 to Dundonald at half time. The Hi Hi’s were more prominent in the second half and McGarry came close when he hit the bar. With fifteen minutes remaining the same player threw his side a lifeline when he he latched onto a fine ball from brother Lucas and volleyed past Swinton. The home fans were expecting another comeback but a slip in defence allowed the visitors to break clear and a penalty was awarded after Lucas McGarry was penalised and Dundonald scored from the spot.

A disappointing end to the match but the Hi Hi’s players can take great credit from an impressive unbeaten run that has taken them into fifth place in the Premier League.
