Having secured a place in the League Cup semi finals when they beat Crossgates Primrose at Millfield last Saturday, the Hi Hi’s had to wait until Tuesday evening to find out who their semi final opponents would be. They were drawn to face the winners of the quarter final tie between Whitburn Juniors and Preston Athletic. Whitburn had already secured promotion to the Premier Division with Preston occupying a mid table position in the First Division. The West Lothian side were favourites to progress but Preston had already beaten them at Prestonpans earlier in the season so travelled to Central Park in a confident mood. Two early goals for the visitors quietened the home support and they held this lead until Whitburn reduced the deficit late in the second half. Preston restored their two goal advantage only to concede soon after, but they managed to withstand some late pressure and reach the last four.

This all East Lothian semi final tie will be played this Friday evening, 24th May, at Pennypit Park in Prestonpans with a 7.30pm kick off. Manager Scott Bonar should have a strong squad available as they attempt to go one better than they did last season when Bo’ness Athletic won a tight semi final at Millfield before going on to lift the trophy. Coincidentally these sides met in a pre season friendly at Prestonpans which ended all square. Another close match is predicted and although Haddington play a league above their opponents they will give Preston every respect as they attempt to reach their first cup final in over 25 years. The Millfield side should be backed by a big support eager to see their side come out on top.
