Haddington have done well in the League Cup in the last couple of seasons reaching the semi finals two years ago and losing in extra time to Sauchie in last seasons final. Having beaten Oakley United and Leith Athletic in the first two rounds, the Hi Hi’s came up against holders Sauchie in a quick rematch at Millfield last Saturday. Over 200 turned up to see what was expected to be an interesting ninety minutes. The sides had drawn in the league at Beechwood Park a few weeks ago and another close contest was expected.

Manager Scott Bonar was without several players and there was a start for Wilson Ngomo in midfield. The home side made the early running and took the lead in the 7th minute when Luke Kennedy scored after his initial effort was saved. The Hi Hi’s were more prominent in the first half but it was a different story after the break when the visitors tried hard to keep their hands on the trophy. Home goalkeeper Jamie Wilson caught the eye with a couple of excellent saves as the visitors pushed forward. The Hi Hi’s defence, marshalled well by Craig Reid, stood firm and the introduction of Robbie Peffers saw the home side mount some good attacks. Ryan Quinn came close to extending the lead following good play from Ngomo and it was the same player who collected a neat through pass from Peffers and score the all important second goal in the 78th minute.

This win sets up an away quarter final tie against either Jeanfield Swifts or Whitburn which will be played on Saturday 17th May.
