The Hi Hi’s played their second successive match of 2025 at a rather dreich Millfield last Saturday when Hutchison Vale provided the opposition. Having lost to league leaders Musselburgh the previous week, Haddington were hoping to record their first win of the year. But the city side’s performance in the first half belied their lowly league position and they looked the likelier side for most of the forty five minutes. The home side were rarely seen as an attacking force and it took a good double save from Campbell McLellan to keep the scores level at the break. Whatever manager Scott Bonnar said to his players at the interval had the desired affect, as it was a more aggressive Haddington side that started the second half. Unfortunately right back Corey Robertson picked up a second yellow card in the opening minutes of the half and the home side were reduced to 10 men. This was evened up 10 minutes later when the Vale’s Maxwell collected a second yellow card for a late challenge on Robbie Peffers who was becoming more influential. In fact it was Peffers who broke the deadlock with a smartĀ left foot finish from the edge of the box when a corner from the left was only partially cleared. It looked as though the Hi Hi’s would go on to add more goals but they were stunned when a spectacular attempt at goal from Gregor McDonald hit the bar and rebounded off goalkeeper McLellan for an equaliser against the run of play. The home side pushed for a winner and substitute Mark McGovern came closest when his low shot hit the post in what was to be the last attack of the match.
