The Hi Hi’s travelled to Edinburgh last Saturday for a reasonably quick rematch with Tynecastle FC in the East of Scotland Premier League. When the sides met at Millfield back in October, a Grant Rose hat trick helped Haddington to 4-2 victory. But manager Scott Bonar’s squad have suffered a few injuries since then with Craig Reid, Ali Simpson, and Tom Davies all sidelined. This list was about to get bigger when skipper Nick Aitchison injured his ankle at training and Haddington’s first choice central defensive partnership sat together in the Meggetland stand. Team boss Bonar paired Corey Robertson and Lucas McGarry in central defence and they both played their part in a solid defensive performance that saw goalkeeper Robbie Stirling rarely troubled. The visitors enjoyed the upper hand in the opening half and should have been well ahead at the break but for some poor decision making in the final third. Haddington suffered another blow when stand in skipper Luke Kennedy was forced to retire before the break. Wilson Ngomo replaced him at the interval with Robbie Peffers taking the captain’s arm band – possibly the youngest player, at 18, ever to captain the Hi Hi’s.

Tynecastle enjoyed more possession as the second half progressed but the visitors defended well and the points were shared in a goalless draw. A victory would have seen Haddington move into second place behind league leaders Musselburgh, but the single point sees them share second place with Hill of Beath.
