Haddington had another home league game last Saturday and once again won all three points. Visitors Tweedmouth Rangers lost 4 – 0 on their first visit to Millfield almost a year ago and it was a similar scoreline last week. It could have been more if the Hi Hi’s had made more of the chances that they created, and as against Ormiston, the woodwork was struck on a few occasions. An early goal from Auriemma set the home side on their way but despite a lot of possession, they failed to find the net again before the break. In fact home ‘keeper Cornet kept his side ahead with a couple of good saves as the visitors broke smartly. Eight minutes into the second half Gordon Harris celebrated his 50th appearance when he scored from the penalty spot after Ross King had been barged off the ball. Again despite lots of possession, goals failed to materialise. Auriemma struck twice in the last ten minutes to put a more realistic look on the scoreline and and also kept up his scoring run – he’s hit the net at least once in each of the last six matches.
Tomorrow Haddington are on cup duty when they entertain Abbey Vale in the second round of the Challenge Cup at Millfield. Abbey Vale are based at New Abbey, just south of Dumfries, and they are one of the top teams in the South of Scotland League. Abbey Vale played at Dunbar in the same competition last season and took the home side to extra time before losing narrowly, so it could be a tight match.
