Having beaten Crossgates Primrose in Fife the previous week, Haddington were firm favourites to reach the semi final of the League Cup when the sides met in a quarter final tie at Millfield last Saturday. Conditions were perfect for this match and a crowd of just over 200 turned up to see if the Hi Hi’s could match last years run to the semi finals. Manager Scott Bonar saw his side make a positive start and they took the lead in 14 minutes when Gabri Auriemma pounced on a loose ball and strode forward to beat the Primrose goalkeeper with a well hit volley from around 25 yards. The home side dominated possession and limited Crossgates to only a few glimpses of goal. The Hi Hi’s almost scored again but the visiting ‘keeper did well to divert a good effort from Ross King.

The Fifers made a determined start to the second half and they had the home side pinned back in the early stages. They failed to convert a couple of good openings and were made to pay the penalty when Haddington broke away in the 54th minute and Guy McGarry and Tom Davies combined for Davies to set up McGarry for a cute finish that extended the home lead. Not long after Seamus Russell put the result beyond doubt when he scored at the second attempt following a corner. Young Robbie Peffers completed the scoring when he cut in from the left and, when he saw the goalkeeper anticipating a cross, he lashed the ball into the net from an acute angle. So the home supporters left happy looking forward to a second successive League Cup semi final tie.
