Haddington were in midweek action when they crossed the Forth last night to face Hill of Beath in a Premier Division match at Keirs Park. There were recalls for Dale Cornet, Aaron Ponton, and Gabri Auriemma as the visitors strived to make it four wins out of five. Keirs Park is a neat ground but it’s a small pitch and Haddington took time to settle. The home side made most of the running but Haddington coped well with their attacks and ‘keeper Cornet was well protected. An injury to Ali Simpson meant a quick return for Guy McGarry and he almost scored with his first touch – a sign of things to come!
Whatever manager Scott Bonar said at the interval had the desired affect, and it was a more purposeful Hi Hi’s side that restarted the match. They should have gone ahead when they were awarded a penalty after McGarry was impeded, but Auriemma saw his spot kick saved. Step in Guy McGarry who stole the show with a 13 minute hat trick. He headed the opener from a Ponton cross and then two fine finishes with his left foot put the game beyond the Fifers.
