Losing at home to Crossgates the previous week meant that Haddington’s hopes of making the Premiership were hanging by a thread, but defeat to Sauchie in their final home game of the season confirmed their fate. This was a match that Haddington should have won after a second half of non stop pressure, but defensive frailties earlier in the game proved to be their downfall. It took Sauchie only two minutes to take the lead. Stand in striker George Cunningham restored equality but further defensive errors saw the vistors move into a 3 – 1 lead. Shaun Hill pulled one back and it remained 3 – 2 at the break. The Hi Hi’s dominated the second half but failed to find the net. Jones hit the bar and King, Nicholson and Cunningham all came close but lack of firepower has proved to be a real problem this season.
Earlier in the week a young Hi Hi’s side lost a League Cup tie at Bonnyrigg. Despite a good first half performance, the Rose ran out comfortable winners by five goals to nil.
