John Henderson’s excellent work on the Millfield pitch ensured that Haddington’s league match against Rosyth survived the elements and went ahead last Saturday. The Fifers sit in fourth place in Conference A and they contributed to an open match with both sides putting the emphasis on attacking football.
The Hi Hi’s started in a positive mood and some slick play saw Subasic come close. The opening goal came from a corner on the right and Subasic provided the final touch past the stranded Rosyth goalkeeper. Home keeper Cornet kept his side ahead with a couple of important saves as Rosyth pushed for the equaliser. Haddington doubled their lead in the opening minutes of the second half, a good through ball from Aurriema set up Shaun Hill and his finish was clinical. on the hour mark it was three when Ali Simpson headed in a corner from the right. The home side made a number of substitutions as the visitors kept battling away and forced a number of fruitless corner kicks. Subasic had a couple of chances to extend the home lead but it was Rosyth who found the net with some sloppy defending punished in the 86th minute. All in all a good ninety minutes for the Hi Hi’s and they stay at the top of the lead with a third of their league programme completed.
