Haddington were hoping to record a long awaited league double over Penicuik Athletic when the sides met in a Premier Division match at Millfield last Saturday. Having won by two goals to nil in Midlothian at the start of the season, Scott Bonar’s side were hoping to complete the double and register their first three points of 2025. However the task was made harder by the fact that the home side were without no fewer than five players. The home side started well and should have been ahead at the break. Former goalkeeper Dale Cornet put one shot onto the post, Grant Rose hit the other post, Ryan Quinn had a goal mysteriously disallowed and Tom Davies blasted over minutes before the break when he should have found the net. There was little between the sides in the second half with neither goalkeeper overworked. The game was decided midway through the half when the referee pointed to the spot in the Haddington penalty area following a rather innocuous challenge by Cammy Watson on an opponent who made the most of it. Former Haddington player Ben Wardlaw beat Jamie Smith from the spot. Haddington tried hard to hit back but Penicuik held on for a rather fortuitous win.
