The East of Scotland League Cup may only have kicked off in March but the Hi Hi’s have managed to progress to the last four after beating Craigroyston , Lothian Thistle HV, Lochore Welfare and Coldstream. They face their sternest test yet when they entertain Bo’ness Athletic in the semi final at Millfield on Tuesday evening, kick off 7.30pm.
The West Lothian side may be a recent arrival on the East of Scotland scene but they have already made their mark. They convincingly wrapped up the Division 3 title weeks ago after amassing 97 points and only losing one match. They scored over 200 goals and their goal difference was a staggering 174! In fact their three main strikers have scored around 150 goals between them – some impressive statistics. A couple of weeks ago they met Premier Division runners up Sauchie in a cup tie and won by five goals to one. So any notion that this will be a straightforward match for the Hi Hi’s should be quickly forgotten. Manager Scott Bonar will make sure that his side are well prepared for what will be a tough ninety minutes. However the home side need to take confidence from their form since early November when only two matches out of twenty have been lost. The Millfield supporters have again been turning out in good numbers this season and a bumper crowd is expected to see what should be an interesting match. Both sides will be eyeing up a place in the final where they will meet either Linlithgow, Dunipace or Penicuik.
What odds for a Linlithgow – Haddington final, fifty years on since Haddington’s famous East of Scotland Cup victory over the Rose at Tynecastle?
