The Hi Hi’s are at home on Saturday when they entertain First Division Leith Athletic at Millfield in the second round of the League Cup. Haddington overcame a stuffy Oakley United side in the first round and they are keenĀ to emulate last season’s run to the final which ended in an extra time defeat to Sauchie at Dunipace.
The Hi Hi’s and Leith battled it out for the Conference A title in season 2021-22 with the Hi Hi’s clinching the one promotion place to the Premier League. Leith have been in the First Division since losing out and will no doubt be keen to get some revenge for that disappointment. Haddington only lost one league game on their way to the the title that season and that was to Leith at Millfield. Hi Hi’s goalkeeper Jamie Smith moved to Millfield from Leith, where he was captain, just weeks ago, and he is set for a quick rematch against his former teammates. Smith has made a big impression since his signing for the Hi Hi’s and he will be keen to end up on the winning side. Haddington striker Mark McGovern is currently on loan at Leith but he will sit this one out. Manager Scott Bonar continues to have injury concerns with several players and will also be without Seamus Russell who is unavailable following his impressive substitute appearance last week.
