The Hi Hi’s entertained county rivals Preston Athletic in an Inter Conference match at Millfield last Saturday – a game which was kindly sponsored by Mazzoli at the Tyneside Tavern. A keenly contested match was expected and a festive crowd of 150 were in Millfield to see the first league match between these sides since May 1994. Recent signing Scott Moffat was in the starting line up to start his second spell with the club.

Preston started brightly but the Hi Hi’s gradually took control of the game and they moved ahead when player/manager Joe Hamill scored his first Millfield goal, with an exquisite chip from fully 20 yards. Both Moffat and King came close but the home side had to settle for a slender lead at the break.

Youngsters from the Hi Hi’s 2007 side entertained the crowd at the interval when they took part in a Crossbar Challenge. The entertainment continued with the Hi Hi’s making all the running and they came close twice before Auriemma provided the perfect finish to a well worked move on the left. The hard working Hutchieson soon added a third, and Preston’s task was made even harder when full back Innes received a straight red card for a rash challenge on Ross King. It was all one way traffic and Moffat celebrated his Millfield return with two goals -his first his 50th for the club.

A satisfactory ending to 2019 to everyone involved at Millfield and they will be looking forward to an exciting 2020. A tough test at Dunipace on the first Saturday of the year awaits the Hi Hi’s.
