The sun was shining at Millfield last Saturday when Haddington and Glenrothes started their respective East of Scotland Premier League campaigns. The Hi Hi’s had taken maximum points from the two meetings last season with a narrow win in Fife followed by a seven goal trouncing at Millfield in April. Both clubs had recruited over the close season and a tight match was predicted.
Skipper Nick Aitchison headed Haddington’s first league goal of the season seventeen minutes in, but the Glens shocked the home side with two goals in a five minute spell on the half hour mark, and the visitors held the lead at the interval.
The home side responded well and turned in a strong second half performance that saw them run out deserved winners. Seamus Russell headed a 55th minute equaliser then good play set up Tom Davies to put his side ahead. Davies added another before recent signing Grant Rose opened his account for the season with a neat finish.
