The decision to play a League Cup in the middle of a league campaign may have surprised some, but Haddington started their League Cup campaign with a match against Lochgelly Albert in Fife last Saturday. Overhead conditions were good but the playing surface, although drier than many expected, was a bit of a leveller. Manager Scott Bonar sent out a strong side and the Hi Hi’s dominated most of the proceedings but found goals hard to come by. It was goalless at the break as the plucky home side stuck to their task but the deadlock was broken early in the second half when the home goalkeeper impeded Guy McGarry in the box. Shaun Hill did the necessary from the spot. Soon after the same player rattled the post with a terrific effort with the goalkeeper beaten all ends up. Guy McGarry also came close when he broke through only to hit the other post. Manager Bonar sent on four substitutes and the visitors kept another clean sheet and collected all three points.
