The Hi Hi’s final league game of the season took place last Saturday when Jeanfield Swifts visited Millfield. A good crowd turned up on a sunny day and conditions were perfect for a good game of football. The home started well and they took the lead when a good move on the left culminated in Joe Tait adding a neat finish. This good work was undone minutes later when a Jeanfield forward pounced on a slack pass in the box and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot when Lucas McGarry brought the player down. Parity was restored when the visitors netted the penalty kick.

Swifts skipper Whitehead was fortunate only to receive a yellow card when he brought down Guy McGarry who looked set to run in on goal, but the big defender’s luck ran out before the interval when a foul on the same player saw him receive a further yellow card and he faced the long walk to the pavilion.

Ten man Swifts made things difficult for the home side in the early stages of the second half but gradually Haddington began to turn the screw and they regained the lead when Guy McGarry benefited from a fortuitous rebound from the goalkeeper and ran the ball into the empty net. Jeanfield’s keeper also took the eye with some stunning saves as the home side chased the security of a third goal. There were to be no more goals and the Hi Hi’s avenged a 4-1 defeat in Perth in October by taking all three points.
