The Hi Hi’s registered their second 1-0 win in this seasons League Cup competition when they edged past Leith Athletic at Millfield last Saturday. The match was played in difficult conditions with a strong wind blowing down the park which meant that the players struggled to produce flowing football. Chances were few and far between and neither goalkeeper was particularly busy in the opening half when Leith had wind advantage. Haddington enjoyed more of the game in the second half forcing a number of fruitless corners. The introduction of substitutes Brandyn Neil and Grant Rose had the desired effect as the home side chased the all important opener. King, Rose and Simpson all came close as Haddington tried to break the deadlock. There were only minutes left when Neil rose above everyone to glance a long throw from Aaron Ewins past the Leith goalkeeper for what proved to be the winning goal, and his first goal for the first team. There was still time for Leith to try to rescue the tie and home ‘keeper Jamie Wilson pulled off a smart save to see his side through to the last sixteen at the expense of his former teammates.

Haddington’s reward is a rematch of last seasons final as they will meet Sauchie Juniors at Millfield in round three on Saturday 19th April.
