Haddington made their first visit to Burntisland when they met the local Shipyard in a Conference B match last Saturday. The Hi Hi’s scored four goals but their defensive frailties were on view and they twice led by two goals but only came away with a point. Conceding early and late goals have been a feature of this season and for the third match in a row, they conceded a goal in the last few minutes.
Burntisland took a second minute lead and although the visitors created some good openings, it took a home defender to restore equality when he put through his own goal on the stroke of half time. The Hi Hi’s made a positive start to the second half and looked to be on their way to three points with goals from Jordan Cropley and another own goal. Defensive slackness saw the home side reduce the leeway but a good finish from Cairney restored the two goal lead. The Fifers bossed the final quarter and two headers brought them two goals with the equaliser arriving in the 89th minute. The Hi Hi’s need to tighten up at the back if their quest for a top five finish is to become a reality.
