Despite the atrocious weather conditions, almost 150 supporters turned up at Millfield last Saturday to see the Hi Hi’s play their first match at Millfield since October. Kinnoull were providing the opposition and with only one league to their name this season the Hi Hi’s were expected to end a losing run of narrow league defeats. The Perth side competed well in the opening half but it was Haddington who looked the more likely to break the deadlock. In fact Gary Windram had the ball in the net only to see the linesman raise his flag.
It was a different story after the break as the Hi Hi’s delighted their supporters with some really good football and goals. Nick Aitchison broke the deadlock early in the second half when he turned in a cross from Aaron PontonĀ from close range. Soon after the home side were awarded a penalty when the hard working Guy McGarry was brought down. Unfortunately Gary Windram’s spot kick failed to find the target. Skipper Gabri Auriemma extended the lead in the 66th minute with a terrific 20 yard effort that soared over the Kinnoull ‘keeper. Ten minutes later Windram made up for his spot kick miss when his shot from the edge of the box passed through a ruck of players and the unsighted goalkeeper. Two further goals in the final five minutes completed the scoring. Joe Tait provided a neat finish to Guy McGarry’s low cross from the right, and then Tait turned provider to set up the match sponsor’s ‘man of the match’, Robbie Peffers who found the net with a great finish.
So having won 5 – 2 in Perth back in August, the Hi Hi’s completed their first league double of the current season.
