The Hi Hi’s were firm favourites to progress to the second round of the East of Scotland League Cup when they entertained Division 2 side Craigroyston at Millfield last Saturday. Having beaten Premier League rivals Lothian Thistle HV and Tynecastle in the previous two weeks, Haddington looked set to complete a capital treble.

A shock never looked on the cards as the home side took a grip on the match from the start. A spectacular effort from Ali Simpson in the 18th minute put the Hi hi’s ahead and only some wasteful finishing meant that this goal separated the sides at the break. Ethan Williams beat Newman in the Craigroyston goal early in the second half as play mainly took place in the visitors half. Manager Scott Bonar made full use of his bench after the break but these changes never really disrupted the flow of the goal. Urged on by Ross King, the home side kept pushing forward and Dylan Tait netted his third goal in three successive games. Skipper Gabri Auriemma took the home total to five with two well taken goals in the closing stages.

Haddington will entertain Lothian Thistle HV in the second round on Saturday 1st April. The Edinburgh side will have revenge on their minds as they lost heavily in the league at Millfield a few weeks ago.
