Paties Road Stadium passed a morning inspection allowing Haddington’s second Inter Conference match to go ahead last Saturday. Although manager Joe Hamill was able to recall skipper George Cunningham he was without several others.

The visitors knew that they would face a tough ninety minutes and there was little between the sides in a keenly contested first half. Ryan Hutchison scored the only goal of the opening half with a close range finish. The same player gave his side a bit of breathing space when he scored with a tremendous 25 yard free kick early in the second half. Hutchison missed a good chance to complete his hat trick before ‘keeper Dale Cornet took the eye with some important stops as United fought to save the game. The Hi Hi’s made sure of the points when 16 year old substitute Robbie King added a third from close range. Hutchison had the final say when he rounded off an intricate move with a neat finish to record his first hat trick for the club.

The Hi Hi’s face a difficult task tomorrow when unbeaten Tynecastle visit Millfield for an Inter Conference match. The free scoring Edinburgh side are sweeping all before them this season, scoring goals for fun. A far cry from last season when Haddington beat them 9 – 1 and 7 – 0.
