For the third successive Saturday the Hi Hi’s were in friendly action at a pristine Millfield when Premier League opposition Newtongrange Star provided the opposition. Having been unlucky to be on the wrong side of a 1 – 0 scoreline against Musselburgh Athletic the week before, manager Joe Hamill was looking for a win but he was hampered by the loss of six players who were on ‘Wembley duty’. No doubt Newtongrange were similarly impacted. The visitors had the edge in the first forty five minutes that saw both sides score from the spot. A foul on Guy McGarry allowed skipper Shaun Hill to put the Hi Hi’s ahead, but the lead was shortlived as Ali Simpson was penalised for bringing down a Star forward minutes later and the visitors made no mistake. The Hi Hi’s put in a good second half performance and a good through ball from Hamill to Hill saw the skipper set up a home trialist for a neat goal. The Hi Hi’s competed well and could well have added to their lead. The Hi Hi’s are next in action at Penicuik on Saturday, 3rd July.
