The Hi Hi’s travelled to Fife last Saturday to play their final Premier League match of the season against Dundonald Bluebell at Cardenden. Coincidentally both these sides were also competing for eighth place in the league and a top half finish. A few weeks ago the ‘Bell were favourites but the Hi Hi’s recent form has allowed them to edge ahead in the league table. The visitors dominated the opening half hour as they tried to build on skipper Nick Aitchison’s 4th minute opener. Robbie Peffers came close to a second but it was the home side who equalised with a long range effort against the run of play. Dundonald were more in the game after this, but there was little in it until midway through the second half when Cornet was beaten low to his right with another well hit shot. The visitors fought to gain parity and twice substitute Gary Windram came close to equalising. Then, for the third time in two games, Tom Davies scored with a well placed shot in time added on. This point meant that Dundonald would have to beat both Jeanfield Swifts and Dunbar United to overtake the Hi Hi’s and claim a top half finish. A late Dundonald goal against Jeanfield at Moorside Park last night earned the Fifers a 2 2 draw which was not enough to allow them to overtake the Hi Hi’s.
