After two postponements, Haddington were back in action last Saturday when they made the short trip to Prestonpans to meet Preston Athletic in a King Cup tie. Conditions were difficult with a heavy surface and a strong wind blowing across the park. There was little between the sides in an uneventful first half but the home side came closest when they struck the outside of the post with a header. The Hi Hi’s broke the deadlock in the 61st minute when Diste Camara Sylla scored his first goal for the club from close range. Seven minutes later the visitors increased their lead when Jamie Chapman headed a cross from Jones across goal for Nicholson to apply the finish. But straight from the kick off, Preston took advantage of a Haddington mistake to reduce the leeway. The Hi Hi’s had the chance to restore their two goal lead when they were awarded a penalty but home ‘keeper Finlay saved from Andy Jones. Haddington’s reward is a trip to meet Oakley United in the next round.
