The Hi Hi’s knew that only a win against surprise packages Crossgates at Millfield last Saturday would keep their promotion hopes alive. For half an hour Haddington more than matched their Fife opponents but the match swung in a ten minute spell in the first half. First home goalkeeper, Dale Cornet, had to retire after suffering a kick on the face in a goalmouth skirmish. Then the Fifers were awarded a disputed penalty that saw them claim the crucial opening goal. Haddington made a spirited start to the second half but a second goal for the visitors coupled with the sending off of home striker Declan Quinn put the game beyond the home side. Two further goals in the final ten minutes put Crossgates on easy street and a late soft penalty award to Haddington, converted by Harris, proved no more than a consolation.
