Millfield was in splendid condition a week past Sunday, 13th June, when it hosted two SERYFA cup finals. Dalkeith Thistle won the Persevere Cup in the morning when they beat a plucky Gullane Athletic side 3- 0.

In the afternoon it was the turn of Haddington Athletic 2007s CFC to meet Dalkeith Thistle in the final of the John Crawford Cup. The match attracted a very good crowd on a hot afternoon and a close game was expected. There was little between the sides in an entertaining first half but it was the young Hi Hi’s who broke the deadlock when Daniel Stewart was first to react after the ball broke loose in the Dalkeith penalty area and he showed great composure when he turned the ball into the net. The second half was another tight affair but a moment of magic from Daniel Stewart gave Haddington some breathing space. Picking the ball up some 30 yards from goal, Daniel left at least three opponents in his wake as he broke through the Thistle defence before beating the goalkeeper with a low finish. A goal fit to win the cup. To their credit, Dalkeith never gave up and a penalty award a few minutes from time set up a nervy ending. Haddington held out and they collected the trophy to great applause from the big crowd who stayed for the presentation. Warmest congratulations to the coaches and players for this terrific achievement.
