The Hi Hi’s made the short trip to Prestonpans last night, Tuesday, for their third pre season friendly fixture. Manager Scott Bonar fielded a strong side but knew that First Division Preston, with a number of new signings, would be out to cause an upset. The home side made most of the early running but Haddington came more into the game and both Guy McGarry and Mark McCormick missed good opportunities to put Haddington in front. The opening goal came just on the half time whistle when Aaron Ponton was fouled in the box and fellow newcomer, Gary Windram, netted from the spot.
Both sides made changes in the second half with the home ‘keeper catching the eye with a few excellent saves, the best coming when he thwarted Windram at point blank range. Cornet pulled off a good save at an onrushing forward’s feet but he was eventually beaten when the home side scored with a looping header. Both Robbie Peffers and the returning Ali Simpson had good efforts late in the game but once again they were denied by the Preston goalkeeper.
The Hi Hi’s play their final pre season match at Millfield on Saturday when they entertain West of Scotland side Drumchapel United, kick off 2.30pm.
