Apologies to Candi Staton for the headline! Haddington Athletic Under 20s entertained Hearts in the second round of the Scottish Youth Cup under the lights at Millfield last Friday. The competition is restricted to players under 18 and Haddington team boss Scott Martin was obviously restricted in his selection options. An excellent crowd of just under 250 were in attendance to see Edinburgh side go through to the next round. The opening half hour held no hint of what the final scoreline would be, as the young Hi Hi’s matched their more fancied opponents. In fact they almost took a surprise lead when a long range effort from Steven Burns rattled the crossbar. However two quick goals in the 31st and 36th minutes put the young Hearts side in control. Hearts dominated the first part of the second half and they threatened to run riot when they stretched their lead with four further goals in a devastating twenty minute spell. To their credit the young Haddington side never gave up and they gained some consolation when left back Euan Walker netted with a well placed shot from fully 20 yards.
