Millfield hosted a double header last Sunday when Haddington Athletic’s under 13s and under 14s both featured in cup finals. Conditions were ideal with the pitch in good condition and the spectators were rewarded with some spring sunshine. Both games were well attended and the supporters saw two good matches.
First up were the Hi Hi’s under 13s who met Penicuik Athletic in the Polar Foods Cup final. Haddington opened the scoring in the first half and quickly added a second after the break. To their credit, Penicuik fought back and the Hi Hi’s goalkeeper pulled off a number of good saves. He was eventually beaten in the closing minutes but Haddington held out and celebrated a 2 1 victory. Congratulations to coaches Ross Cowan and Colin Murdoch and their players.
The afternoon game was between the Hi Hi’s under 14s and Edinburgh United. The capital side were strong favourites and took a one goal lead into the break. Two further goals saw Edinburgh claim the silverware, but Haddington never stopped trying and had they taken some of the chances that they created then they might have caused an upset. Disappointment for coaches Gordon MacIvor and Steve Goan and their players but they more than contributed to a entertaining game.
