Squad update # 2
We registered Diste Camara Sylla as a Haddington Athletic player just after Christmas, a couple of weeks after he’d put pen to paper – unfortunately the 17 year old midfielder is out of action at present after picking up an injury in our friendly against Dalkeith Thistle on 22 December, but we look forward to watching him progress once his recovery’s complete.
Guinea-born Diste had his first outing in Hi Hi’s colours back on 13 November, impressing against Berwick Rangers Reserves in a Whittingehame Drive friendly. At the time his registration with St Johnstone hadn’t yet been cancelled and he played with their permission – the Saints in due course processed the necessary paperwork and Diste made his competitive Haddington debut in the 7-0 home defeat of Tynecastle on 24 November, as a second half substitute replacing Andy McNeill. He again came on for Andy the following Saturday as we beat Eyemouth United 8-0 seven days later, and also featured in friendlies against Penicuik Athletic and, as mentioned, Dalkeith.
Diste, who stays at Hawkhill in east Edinburgh, is no stranger to East Lothian having played for Longniddry Villa as a fourteen year old – he then had a season under Scott Bonar with Portobello CFA before joining St Johnstone in the summer of 2017. We’re delighted to welcome Diste to the club, and wish him well in his time with us.
