Haddington entertained Luncarty in an East of Scotland Premier Division match at Millfield last Saturday, and although the wind maybe wasn’t as strong as the previous week, spectators had to contend with a cold east breeze. The Hi Hi’s had won 7-1 in the first game in Perthshire back in October, but it was obvious from the opening exchanges that the visitors had no intention of conceding as many on this occasion. Whilst the home side had the majority of the play, they were given little space by a hard working visiting side. Although most of the play was in the Luncarty half, goalkeeper Mitchell wasn’t unduly overworked but he did well to turn over a long range effort from Robbie Peffers.
There was no change in the pattern of play after the break with the Hi Hi’s coming close on several occasions. Manager Scott Bonar introduced Corey Robertson and Wilson Ngomo into the action, and it was Ngomo who broke the deadlock in the 86th minute to the delight of the home support. His first effort was blocked but he was first to pounce on the loose ball and drove it low past goalkeeper Mitchell for an important three points. This win moved Haddington back into fourth spot but there are several teams competing for this position. With league reconstruction looking more and more a certainty, the team that finishes fourth could be playing in tier 5 next season.
