The Hi Hi’s welcomed St Andrews United to Millfield in a Premier Division match last Saturday and were hoping to record their first victory of 2025. They were also hoping to avenge a 3-2 defeat in Fife last September when a 2-0 lead was turned into a 3-2 defeat. As things turned out it was the Fifers who were again to come out on top by the same scoreline. ,
Manager Scott Bonar fielded his latest signing, goalkeeper Jamie Smith, who was captain of recent rivals Leith Athletic. As part of the deal, Mark McGovern moves on loan to Leith until the end of the season. The home side found themselves two behind after half an hour and there were claims of offside for both goals, but these claims were dismissed by the officials. Tom Davies scored with a 20 yard free kick just before the interval to give the home side some hope. However it was the Fifers who made the better start to the second half and extended their lead but questions will be asked about the defending of the free kick that led to the goal. The introduction of youngsters Aaron Ewins, Wilson Ngomo, and Brandyn Neil brought some much needed energy to the Hi His and Ryan Quinn reduced thedeficit, when he scored his first goal for the club since his move from Penicuik a few weeks ago. Haddington were pushing for an equaliser and only a brilliant save from the St Andrews goalkeeper, prevented Brandyn Neil from netting with a close range header.
A disappointing result from Haddington who will want to rediscover their winning form, sooner rather than later.
